An elderly woman was given a 10-day jail sentence for feeding two stray cats in the state of Ohio, local media reported Wednesday.
Nancy Segula, 79, rescued two cats after their owner left the area some time ago. And she enjoyed taking care of her animal friends who provided companionship for the past couple of years.
But she was sued for feeding the stray animals after one of her neighbors issued a complaint citing a law that bans residents from feeding stray animals in Garfield Heights that is located just south of Cleveland.
A petition, "Keep 79-year-old Nancy Segula Out of Jail," was launched on change.org to help keep her from serving time and to draw attention to the controversial law.
She is to report to the Cuyahoga County Jail Aug. 11 where a judge will decide if the sentence is correct.
