EU urges China to respect Hong Kong autonomy

The European Union on Friday urged China to respect Hong Kong's freedoms after Beijing unveiled plans for a new security law following months of protests in the semi-autonomous territory.
After consulting EU capitals, Brussels' diplomatic chief Josep Borrell issued a statement calling for "the preservation of Hong Kong's high degree of autonomy".
