Air defences shot down most of the Russian missiles fired at Ukraine on Monday and energy workers have already begun work on restoring power supplies, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
Russia carried out the latest in a wave of air strikes on Ukraine on Monday, destroying homes in the south and knocking out power in the north and killing at least two people, Ukrainian officials said.
Ukrainian air defences succeeded in taking more than 30 Russian missiles out of the sky, Zelensky said.
In the southern Ukrainian city of Odessa, however, at least two pieces of infrastructure were hit, according to the authorities. As a result of power cuts, the water supply and district heating in the port city failed.
The air alert was in effect for almost three hours across Ukraine.
Zelensky reported in a video that repair of the damage had already begun. At the same time, the president assured: "Our people never give up."
Russia has been waging a war against its neighbour Ukraine since the end of February. Following military setbacks, Moscow has massively shelled Ukraine's energy infrastructure with missiles eight times since October. Large parts of the country now only have electricity intermittently.
