Hakan Fidan visited Qatar as part of his diplomatic engagements. During his visit, Fidan had a meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Subsequent to the discussions, Fidan addressed the media in a joint press conference with Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdurrahman.
The key points from Fidan's statements are outlined below:
"The most pressing issue on our agenda is the ongoing conflict in Gaza, which has deeply troubled the conscience of all of humanity. The deliberate targeting of our Palestinian brothers, including children, patients, and the elderly, even within schools, hospitals, and mosques, constitutes a crime against humanity.
Our President is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts with world leaders. He is working tirelessly to end the suffering and the war.
A ground operation into Gaza would escalate this brutality into a full-blown massacre.
We unequivocally condemn the attacks that lead to collective punishment in Gaza. Israel must immediately reverse this course of action. An immediate ceasefire should be declared, and a humanitarian corridor must be established.
In the current circumstances, we are faced with the choice of either an even larger war or a more comprehensive peace. Some individuals are fanning the flames of this conflict. If we fail to alter the current trajectory, the entire world will face a grimmer future. For years, Israel has turned a deaf ear to international condemnations and acted with impunity. The time has come to take concrete steps. Achieving lasting peace in our region will remain elusive unless a just resolution is reached for the Palestinian issue.
The Qatari people have consistently played a constructive and altruistic role during this crisis. We deeply appreciate the efforts of our Qatari brothers. Our discussions today were very productive in this regard.
We have observed that there is a higher degree of destruction and loss of life in this Gaza conflict compared to previous sieges. Particularly, the interruption of electricity and the hindrance of essential humanitarian supplies have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis. We are edging closer to a more significant risk scenario.
As the casualties and devastation in Gaza mount, the reactions in the region will naturally intensify. The outcome is difficult to predict in advance.
Our message, as Türkiye, is clear: The attacks on Gaza must cease promptly. Humanitarian aid must be allowed to reach the affected areas. Serious efforts, particularly by Western nations, should be initiated for a two-state solution. It is crucial for Western countries, in particular, to exert realistic and rational pressure. Otherwise, our region is at an increased risk."
