Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday claimed that Russia suffered heavy losses amid an attempt to advance towards the town of Vuhledar in the country's eastern Donetsk region.
"Had a daily conference call. Received information about the situation on the front. The enemy made an attempt to conduct the offensive in the Vuhledar direction, but our warriors stopped it, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy," Zelenskyy said in a statement on Telegram.
Claiming that many Russian soldiers were killed and wounded during these attempts, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine's defensive actions near the city of Avdiivka and its offensive operations on the southern front are also ongoing.
Zelenskyy said that he got reports from the Defense Ministry on the arrival of shells, missiles, and equipment, adding that he also received intelligence reports on the situation at the front, in the international arena, and in Russia.
Russian officials have not yet commented on the claims, and independent verification of Ukraine's claims is difficult due to the ongoing war.
