A few days after the Russian missile strike on a ceremony in the Ukrainian front-line region, the Ukrainian military has put the number of soldiers killed at 19.
The 128th Mountain Infantry Brigade wrote on Telegram on Monday that all the circumstances of the tragedy are currently being investigated.
After the attack last Friday, Ukrainian media initially reported more than 20 dead. According to the Ukrainian military, a Russian Iskander missile struck just as the soldiers were taking part in a ceremony to mark Artillery Day.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Defence Minister Rustem Umerov announced an investigation.
There was sharp criticism of the military leadership on social networks for allowing such a ceremony in the front-line area at all.
There was also criticism that the authorities and the minister had only confirmed the devastating attack at the weekend after the information had been circulating on social networks and in the media for quite some time.
Three days of mourning were organized in the soldiers' home region of Zakarpattia, also known as Transcarpathia.
