Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his visiting Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi on Wednesday highlighted the "constructive atmosphere and positive trend" of the bilateral relations between their countries in a meeting in the capital Dushanbe.
"Within the framework of the visit program, during the meeting and negotiations, which were held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding, a wide range of important issues of relations and cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran were discussed," said a statement by the Tajik presidency.
The statement said that many historical and cultural values shared between Tajik and Iranian people continue to be a basis for strengthening "the atmosphere of understanding, trust and mutual respect in friendly relations and beneficial cooperation."
Tajikistan and Iran "expressed their satisfaction with the constructive atmosphere and the positive trend of relations between the two countries and the expansion of their content," it further said.
The existence of "abundant possibilities" to expand and develop cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran was emphasized during the meeting, it added.
The leaders stressed the need for joint efforts to implement the long-term programs for economic and trade cooperation until 2030, as they also said the implementation of important projects in the industry, energy, transport, mineral processing, agriculture, and tourism spheres are beneficial for both countries.
"During the negotiations, there was an exchange of views on pressing international and regional issues, including the situation in Afghanistan, the Palestinian issue, and other topics of the international agenda," the statement said, adding that a new package of bilateral documents on cooperation were signed following the talks.
