Erdoğan: Israel's attacks on Palestinian lands must end, ceasefire should be established immediately

Israel must immediately halt its genocide-level attacks in the blockaded Gaza Strip and agree to a ceasefire, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on a visit to Germany on Friday.

"President Erdogan stated that Israel's attacks on Palestinian lands must end and that the reaction from the whole world against human rights violations is important," the Turkish presidency said in a statement after Erdoğan met German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

"A ceasefire should be established immediately," the statement said.

During his one-day official visit to Berlin, Erdoğan had the opportunity to meet with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The visit comes amid a growing international outcry over Israel's military campaign in Gaza, which has claimed more than 11,500 lives so far, with many of them children and women.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier welcomed Erdoğan at his official residence, Bellevue Palace, where the two had a face-to-face meeting before expanded talks between the delegations.
Erdoğan and German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier agreed that all efforts must be directed towards helping to free the hostages and preventing the conflict from spreading regionally, the statement said.
"They emphasized the urgent need to protect the civilian population and improve humanitarian supplies in Gaza."
Both presidents also emphasized that a lasting peaceful future in the region could only come by following a path towards a two-state solution, the office said.
Steinmeier also recognized Erdoğan's efforts to mediate an agreement between Ukraine and Russia on the export of Ukrainian grain.
