President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that his army's advance towards the Ukrainian capital Kyiv in 2022 was aimed at forcing Ukraine to agree to a peace deal and that there was no intention of storming Kyiv.

Ukraine and the West say Russia wanted to capture Kyiv and install Russia-friendly leaders, but was beaten back by fierce resistance.
