A Ukrainian shell struck a home in the Russian village of Bezlyudovka, killing one woman, Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Belgorod region, said on Telegram.

The town of Shebekino, several kilometres east of the village, was also struck, although there were no reports of casualties.

"Windows were knocked out in eight private homes, roofs and fences were damaged," Gladkov said.

Reuters could not independently verify his account.

Belgorod has come under frequent shelling and drone attacks from Ukraine in the course of the war. It is next to the Kursk region, a large swathe of which is occupied by Ukrainian forces following a cross-border attack last month.
