Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and Iran's nuclear program with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi during a meeting in New York, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
The ministry said in a statement that the meeting took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and focused on what it described as "ongoing Ukrainian attacks and provocations" against the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant and the nearby city of Enerhodar.
The situation surrounding Iran's nuclear program following strikes by Israel and the US on Iranian nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards was also on the agenda, it said.
Lavrov also met UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with the two officials exchanging views on international and regional issues, particularly the situation in the Gulf and the Palestinian territories.
The Russian foreign minister also held talks with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, discussing bilateral relations and the results of a recent meeting of the Russian-Jordanian intergovernmental commission, as well as the escalation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Lavrov met separately with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to discuss bilateral cooperation and the political situation in Serbia and the Balkans, including the Kosovo settlement based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
He also held talks with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on strengthening bilateral ties, including trade, investment and humanitarian cooperation, as well as international and regional issues and coordination on multilateral platforms.
The Russian foreign minister also met the foreign ministers of Brazil, Algeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Nicaragua and Lebanon, as well as Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy and Swiss Foreign Minister and Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Chair-in-Office Ignazio Cassis.
The discussions covered bilateral cooperation and coordination at international organizations, as well as regional and international issues, including the Middle East, the situation in Lebanon and the work of the OSCE and the UN, the ministry said.
