The US State Department issued an alert on Monday warning Americans to avoid demonstration areas in major French cities after days of violent protests that have rocked the country.
The alert issued by the American embassy in Paris noted violent demonstrations on October 17 and new curfews planned in cities including Lille and Paris.
"Avoid the areas of the demonstrations," the warning said.
