Design for gigantic floating city could make it world's largest boat

This new luxury boat, called Pangeos, will cost a whopping $8 billion to construct, according to the designers Lazzarini. It is named after Pangea, a supercontinent that existed from 200 million to 335 million years ago. It's no wonder the structure is so expensive when, if funded, it will become the largest floating structure ever built. The structure, which looks like something a Bond villain would have, would be 550 meters (1,800 feet) long and 610 meters (2,000 feet) wide.

They have identified a spot at King Abdullah Port, 81 miles north of Jeddah, as the ideal location for the city. Pangeos is designed to be divided into blocks like an actual city, with a port and main square, off which other buildings spiral. An "upper shell" area, surrounded by garden spaces, would act as a landing spot for aircraft. The yacht would have 30,000 "cells" below the living space to keep it afloat, a steel basement, and a massive 30 meter draft. It would be able to cruise at a speed of five knots while the "wings" would draw energy from waves. The roof would have solar panels to power the yacht.
