Kızlar Kayası, a natural wonder in Konya, has been revitalized with extensive landscaping and lighting improvements. Located in the Dere District, just 7 kilometers from the city center, Kızlar Kayası is now a must-see destination for tourists and locals alike.
The newly installed stairs provide easy access to the geological formations, which can now be visited even after sunset. Visitors can marvel at the up-close beauty of the rocks and learn about the many legends surrounding them.
Meram Mayor Mustafa Kavuş emphasized that Kızlar Kayası has been incorporated into the city's already rich historical and cultural tour circuit. He also noted that the landscaping and lighting project was undertaken to promote the area for tourism and preserve its natural beauty.
"Prior to the project, the rocks were vandalized with graffiti and excavations took place around them," Kavuş explained. "We endeavored to clean the area without causing further damage. With the protective measures we've implemented, it will be possible to visit this site without human interference for many years."
In addition to the landscaping and lighting improvements, the municipality has also developed social spaces for visitors to enjoy their time at Kızlar Kayası. These include walking paths, seating areas, and an observation deck that offers stunning views of the formations.
Visitors to Kızlar Kayası have been delighted with the recent improvements. Fatma Nur Deveci, a visitor from Konya, drew comparisons between the formations at Kızlar Kayası and those found in Cappadocia. "I've never been to Cappadocia before," she said, "but by visiting here, I had the opportunity to witness what fairy chimneys are like."
Nahide Çelik, another visitor, praised Kızlar Kayası as an excellent destination for travelers and noted the substantial improvements made to the site. "I visited this place once when I was a child," she said, "and it has changed significantly since then. I find the work done here to be very impressive. The formations are already inherently beautiful, but with the recent improvements, Kızlar Kayası is now a truly magical place."
