Sea overflows in Iskenderun after quake, streets fill with water

Sea water overflowed in the Iskenderun district of Hatay, Türkiye, as it was stated that the sea overflow, which attracted attention after the earthquake in the city, was caused by the southwestern winds. After the 4.5-magnitude earthquake that occurred in Iskenderun Bay at 23:49, the sea flooding made the citizens nervous. The overflowing sea water has penetrated into the city at some points, as it was also learned that the collapse of about 50 centimeters on the coastline due to earthquakes also facilitated the overflow of sea waters. Expressing his surprise at the flooding, a local resident İsmail Açıkgöz said, 'I have just come to this region. This happened 2-3 hours ago. The earthquake just happened. I didn't understand how this happened either. After the earthquake in Iskenderun, the sea is overflowing for the second time. Before the earthquake, it would only be like this in the rains, which was the rainwater, there was no water coming from the sea. We are also surprised.' The Governor's Office said it was due to the southwestern winds. In the statement made by the Iskenderun District Governorate, it was stated that the sea flooding was not thought to be related to the earthquake, and it was caused by the southeastern winds. 'There is no negative situation that has been reflected to our security forces due to the earthquake so far. Our scans continue throughout the district,' it said.
