Elderly Muslims perform hajj after restrictions lifted

Saudi Arabia's decision to lift curbs that previously prevented the elderly from participating in the compulsory Islamic ritual has made Alsafi Mansur's "lifelong" wish to take part in the hajj pilgrimage a reality this year.

Shaaban al-Sisi, a 67-year-old Egyptian pilgrim, said the heat was not enough, he also had to struggle with a chronic heart condition. "The hot temperatures are exhausting for me. But I won't leave...until I perform all the rituals," he said.
