FBI files uncover assassination plot to kill Queen Elizabeth II during California visit

Recently disclosed FBI files have unveiled information regarding a potential plot to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to California in 1983. The documents indicate that the threat came to light after a phone call was made by an individual who alleged that his daughter had been fatally struck by a rubber bullet in Northern Ireland.

The botched attempt was covered up by police at the time and only came to light in 2018 when New Zealand's Security Intelligence Service (SIS) spy agency released documents following a media request. Also in 1981, another teenager fired six blanks at her during the monarch's Trooping the Colour birthday parade in central London.
