Russia wants to introduce compulsory military training at schools

Britain's Ministry of Defence said in a statement by citing intelligence that Russia wants to introduce compulsory military training at schools ahead of conscription. Moscow has been planning to begin 140 hours of annual training at schools from September 2023 onwards.

The ministry said the plans were a revival of a Soviet-era programme, discontinued in 1993, that included preparation for nuclear and chemical attacks, as well as a first aid course and rifle practice.
