Location and Establishment Sednaya Prison is located in the town of Sednaya, approximately 30 kilometers north of the capital, Damascus. Established in the 1980s, the prison was originally designed to house criminals. Over the years, however, as the Syrian government targeted political opponents, Sednaya became a facility primarily used for imprisoning political detainees.
