Turkey's constitution guarantees freedom of press and expression, the Foreign Ministry said Friday.
"This right, however, cannot condone actions against the law and promotion of terrorism under the guise of journalism," the ministry said in a tweet.
The statement comes hours after the U.S. Embassy in Turkey said in a tweet: "Freedom of expression and press strengthens democracy and needs to be protected everywhere. Charging journalists for doing their jobs is antithetical to this universal principle."
