Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency sets up disaster and emergency training workshop in Mongolia

Turkey has set up a disaster and emergency training workshop in Mongolia's southern city of Dornogobi, the country's state-run aid agency said on Monday.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) said the class is open for the country's 23rd Emergency and Disaster Management Unit.

The unit is a state institution responsible for providing search, rescue, disaster, and emergency management services by directly protecting the lives and property of 25,000 people living in the city, it said in a statement.

As part of the training, children, as well as adults, will be taught the necessary information and intervention techniques about disasters.

The Turkish aid agency also provided emergency kits, medical devices, and other applied training materials and equipment.

Speaking at the project's opening ceremony, Emrah Ustaomer, TIKA's Ulanbator program coordinator, said the training will create a safety culture in Mongolia, and contribute to keeping the losses from accidents and disasters to a minimum.

Dornogobi Governor Erdenetsetseg Gotov acknowledged TIKA's earlier aid projects in the landlocked East Asian country.

Thanking Turkey, Gotov said that upon their request, TIKA established the disaster and emergency training class within a short time.
