Iraq signals readiness to resume oil exports to Türkiye

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani expressed a readiness Wednesday to find a solution to resume oil exports to Türkiye.

A meeting in Baghdad between Sudani and Türkiye's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar discussed strengthening energy relations, according to a statement from the Iraqi Prime Minister's Press Office.

Addressing the issue of water sharing between Iraq and Türkiye, Sudani emphasized the need for increased cooperation.

Referring to the "strategic project" known as the Development Road Project, Sudani expressed that the project would significantly contribute to the development of the economies of both countries.

Sudani noted the consensus between Ankara and Baghdad on Gaza and appreciated Türkiye's open and transparent stance against Israeli attacks against Gaza.

Bayraktar emphasized Türkiye's willingness to enhance cooperation with Iraq in various fields.

He said Iraq is not only important for Türkiye but a significant country, especially in the field of energy, for the entire Europe.

As part of his visit to Baghdad, Bayraktar held inter-delegation talks with Iraqi Oil Minister Hayyan Abdul Ghani.

Following the decision of the International Arbitration Court in Paris regarding oil exports between Türkiye and Iraq, the flow of oil from Iraq to the Ceyhan Port was halted March 25.
